Micah's Baby Shower

Two of my dear friends and sisters here gave Micah a baby shower! Thank you Dana and Stacey!! There truly are no words to say thank you enough for ALL you have done for our family over the last 4 yrs!!! We love ya'll!

We have been so blessed with friends here that support our decisions to grow our family through adoption. Stacey and Dana (and their families) have supported us in countless ways! But one way, for sure, is through this baby shower. Micah is our first newborn son, so we had zero clothing for him when we got the phone call for him. We were given 2 tubs of clothes to borrow the night before we brought Micah home. And on June 7th the girls gave us a shower where we got clothes, bottles, and formula - the only things we needed!

If you are ever wondering how to bless a family who is adopting - a shower is a practical way to support and encourage them!!! Another practical way is to bring meals. Our care group brought meals for several days - just like they did when Karis was born. HUGE! This allowed us to spend more time bonding and adjusting as a family!!!

It brings complete joy to my heart that we have been surrounded by people who have treated our pregnancy and our adoptions with the same excitement!!

Another family who was recently treated to an adoption shower for their little girl are our friends Sean and Dana. Check out their shower for international shower ideas - very creative and special for their situation! They brought home their little Mercy Father's Day weekend from Ethiopia!! Praise God!!

I love baby showers! What a special way to continue celebrating the little boy God has brought into your lives and family. I pray that you continue to grow in strength and faith in Him as the family grows!

Oh Shawnda...I'M the one who is blessed and privileged to watch God grow your family into a beautiful, colorful picture of how we will worship Him in eternity. I feel this over and over as you share the passion God has given you and Jason and as we watch God bring this to fruition in your lives. It has been a JOY as I'm sure many other people feel as well. You're precious to me, sister!

Shawnda,
I know I'm a little late here, but congratulations on your precious little Micah Sixeight! What a joy! Even though I only know you from your blog for the past year or so, and am geographically afar off, I have to agree with what Dana wrote. Thank you for your witness and the edification you put out here. I think you are a powerful tool of God, sister!

How sweet of your friends/sisters! Showers are just so much fun for new little ones. I was blessed to have friends do that for Isabella and then our church did a diaper shower for Amelia which was wonderful too. You're right it is a huge blessing for adoptive families! I never got the meals, and not complaining here, we didn't go hungry :), but that is awesome that your care group did that. I think people tend to forget that you're still adjust to a newborn whether you've given birth to him/her or not. That's great your friends were very sensitive to that.

Shawnda, what a great post. A shower is such a nice way to bless an adoptive family. For those of us that God ordained to only grow our families through adoption love this becasue it encourages the parents who may be dealing with infertility and doubt. My twin sister and some girlfriends of mine set our shower for April 2007, whether our bundle had or had not arrived. Praise God and His infinite wisdom, becasue our shower was exactly six days after Kayden arrived...truly a gift and PERFECT timing...of which NO ONE can take credit for! Continue to enjoy that little man and your other three beautiful children. God's RICHEST blessings to you six!
